Very sexy … no wonder it’s fantasy. Wonderful though.

And that was for certain the artists’ intention! Also, ordinary guys with spindly legs and girls with flat bosomed chests simply have no place in such rich worlds. It is however difficult to tell if an illustrator was gay, or if a female illustrator lived out her lesbian fantasies. On the surface it all looks very chauvinist heterosexual. I find the Vallejo painting of the man with long hair next to the spiked beast verrry gay – that pose! – but I wouldn’t be surprised if women particularly appreciate him for his ‘soft touch’. The metrosexual barbarian…
Was Boris Vallejo aware of this? I just found out that he is married, to Julie Bell, a renowned Fantasy artist herself. So is the gayness in that illustration unintentional? Or did Julie have some – typically female – hand in it?
